Music is like Herpes…

…but, not in a BAD way.

Think about it, though – the closer you get to folks, the more likely it is that you’re gonna “pick something up”. I’m just sayin’.

We’ll call this the “Shout Out Shuffle”. A big thank you to some of my favorite Music Germ Spreaders, who’ve either introduced me to artists and their music, or who will be indelibly linked to them in my brain. Now, let’s see who comes up…

Neko Case: Maybe Sparrow
Reckless Kelly: Wiggles and Ritalin
Courtesy of my Sister in Law, Megan!

Megan has awesomely eclectic taste in music. She’s hella smart, too, which may have something to do with that. One day I actually decided to pay attention to some of the musicians she had listed on her MySpace, and was VERY pleasantly surprised. Neko Case gives me chills – look up Furnace Room Lullaby and be blown away. Reckless Kelly just feels good. Impeccable fashion sense, unfailing good grammar AND great music? Dude, even if I didn’t adore my husband, I’d stick around just so I get to keep Megan as family.

Saw Doctors: I Uesta Love Her
Greg, the Little Brother I Never Had, but wanted, so have now!

Greg is a film-maker, and Greg is Irish. I mean, ACTUALLY Irish, from Dublin. This means that when it comes to all things Celtic, I get the real skinny on what is authentic and what is contrived crap. (Except Greg might say “bollocks” or “shite”.) He’s the one who told me about the Saw Doctors AGES ago, and I love them. N-17 and Bless Me Father are other favorites of theirs. Hence Saw Doctors = authentic Irish. Evidently, according to photo comments he left me on Facebook after St. Patty’s day, the green jammies and green and white striped Dr. Seuess hat with the Shamrock that I dressed my son, Liam in = SHITE. He and his lovely wife Jenn are Liam’s Godparents – or will be when we finally get off our asses and have him Baptised, so we know Liam’s “education on his heritage” will be epic. I can’t WAIT for the lessons on the proper temperature to enjoy Guinness, and how much Jameson’s really IS “too much”…

Elliott Smith: Tomorrow Tomorrow
The Magnificent Liz Lemon! (Not the 30 Rock one…the other one.)

I have to admit that before Liz, I had no idea who Elliott Smith was. It’s true – although I always loved that song from “Good Will Hunting”. You’re thinking about it now, too, aren’t you? It was Miss Misery, and it was nominated for an Oscar. Haunting, just like so many of his songs…and like him, the more I learn. This song and Waltz #2 may be my favorites, and for some reason, Waltz #2 may actually remind me more of Liz. I’ve learned alot from her, or “thanks” to her… (including ftp, how to make videos, and just how many bottles of Stella I actually CAN consume in one 24 hour period…), but I appreciate the education on Elliott Smith the most, I think.

Flight of the Conchords: If You’re into It
Michele and Meg.

I actually introduced them to FOTC. However, their reaction to this song was spontaneous. On the sidewalk of a main street in DC. I have video.
That’s ALL I’m saying…
